In a fiery address to the United Nations, President Donald Trump accused the organization of 'funding an assault' on the U.S. southern border, a claim that has sparked intense debate. 'Not only is the U.N. not solving the problems it should, too often, it’s actually creating new problems for us to solve,' Trump declared, highlighting the crisis of uncontrolled migration as the most pressing issue of the era.
The president pointed to the U.N.’s 2024 budget of $372 million in cash assistance to support an estimated 624,000 migrants journeying into the U.S. as evidence of this 'assault.' 'The U.N. is funding an assault on Western countries and their borders,' he continued, emphasizing how the organization provides food, shelter, transportation, and even debit cards to undocumented individuals en route to the southern border.
'Thousands of people came through that southern border just a year ago,' Trump stated, noting that the situation has now been 'totally stopped.' This shift, he argued, is due to his administration’s aggressive measures to secure the border, which have effectively deterred migration.
But here’s where it gets controversial: Critics argue that the U.N.’s role in migration is not inherently malicious, but rather a reflection of global efforts to address humanitarian crises. Should the U.S. stop funding the U.N.? This question has divided opinion, with some defending the organization’s mission and others questioning its effectiveness.
Trump’s critique extended beyond migration, accusing the U.N. of enabling criminal networks under Biden’s policies. 'Joe Biden’s policies empowered murderous gangs, human smugglers, child traffickers, drug cartels, and prisoners — prisoners from all over the world,' he said, claiming that his administration’s crackdown on border crossings has eliminated the threat.
The president also highlighted the loss of over 300,000 children trafficked across the border, many of whom were sold or abused. 'Nearly 30,000 of these victims have been located and returned to their families,' he added, framing the globalist migration agenda as a 'systematic evil.'
Meanwhile, Trump condemned the U.N.’s 'fake Paris Climate Accord,' which he withdrew from in 2024. 'The entire globalist concept of asking successful, industrialized nations to inflict pain on themselves and radically disrupt their entire societies must be rejected completely and totally — and it must be immediate,' he insisted.
This is the part most people miss: While the U.N. aims to promote global cooperation, its actions can sometimes conflict with national interests.
