On Monday, November 3, 2025, emergency services were dispatched to Hope Street, Melrose Park, responding to reports of an assault and road rage. Upon arrival, officers from the Ryde Police Area Command were informed that a 26-year-old man had been kicked by an unknown assailant while sitting on a set of stairs following a heated argument. The suspect, who was not known to the victim, fled the scene in a vehicle shortly after the incident. The 26-year-old man bravely attempted to stop the fleeing driver, but his efforts were in vain as the driver allegedly accelerated towards him, causing him to fall onto the car's bonnet. The vehicle then proceeded onto Waratah Street and turned onto Hope Street, with the 26-year-old man still clinging to the bonnet. The driver, an 81-year-old man, eventually brought the car to a stop on Hope Street.
